Xingu / BRAZIL / 2012 / Cao Hamburger / DRAMA / 103 mins
Synopsis: Based on the real-life saga of the Villas-Boas brothers, “Xingu” recounts the adventures of an expedition to a wild central Brazil in 1943. Different worlds meet as the three brothers encounter indigenous tribes and become interested in the customs and social systems of the cultures they discover. When half a village dies of an influenza epidemic, the brothers devote their lives to protecting the Xingu peoples and preserving their culture, culminating with the creation of the Xingu National Park. The film tells an inspiring story of human rights and environmental activism that remains as significant today as it was 60 years ago.
